Unhappy Slow Dowloads

The doanloads of both videos & pics have been really slow over the last week or so. What's going on? I've never had this problem with any other site - I've done virus checks, the lot.
What's happening?

Well, I cannot say it has gone back down, because for me it didn't go up. I've been getting really awful download speeds for days now. Much less than 1/10 of what I have seen in the past.

For example: downloaded 380Mb in 9 hours 35 minutes at an average or 11.2K/sec.

A day or two I can accept (the 'Net varies so much), but this has been going on far too long.

Wink An Explanation of Internet Traffic...

I have explained this before but I'll do it again.

When you connect to a server it is a crapshoot regarding how you get connected to that server i.e. how many hops, routers, or network nodes you go through to get somewhere on the 'net. It is possible that connected one minute yields a great connection while another a second later is dog slow. One tool to try is traceroute. This tool is especially helpful in Naturalsgood's situation as it shows all the connections to a given server as well as the speeds to make the connections.

In NG's case it may be that a given node was acting up and the network administrator failed to discover it. Sometime's there are DoS attacks (Denial of Service) where some hacker is bombarding a network with traffic slowing down service for everyone using that route. While there are two of the most common examples, you SHOULD get routed around that "bad" hop if your ISP is monitoring traffic as they should. Unfortunately in NG's case that didn't happen so you were stuck with a slow.

Hope that helps...
